Kelly Holland is the former CEO & Owner of Penthouse (formally, Penthouse Global Media), the Producer of Penthouse Magazine. She’s been to my home, and I’ve been to hers. Launched in 1965 in the U.K. and in 1969 in the United States, Penthouse Magazine has always been the head-to-head direct competing magazine to Playboy. Although they never meant any harm by it, I’ve personally always responded to civilians’ (non-porn-industry folks) frequent comments of “you are going to be the next Hugh Hefner” with a bit of disdain because Hef was never a pornographer… Hef’s business was nude photography, not pornography. (Not that Hef was a bad guy or anything; I respect his work & legacy, but he was not a pornographer. Kelly Holland is, and so am I.) With that disclaimer, I will mention that I’ve always seen Ms. Holland – in a way – as the female “version” of Hugh Hefner. Penthouse is one of the two main high-end American “adult magazines” and Penthouse’s studios in Los Angeles have a similar aura to that of what the Playboy Mansion used to. Penthouse’s studios feature extravagant wardrobe & makeup rooms, beautifully-assembled sets for video production & photo shoots, and pristine offices. There’s an unforgettable blend of a focus on sex & the female body with an obvious & prevalent high-respect for women. Penthouse is an unabashed, unapologetic female-owned leader of high-end pornography, and that’s why we love and respect them! When I first met Kelly Holland, she was not yet the CEO or Owner of Penthouse. She was the Vice President of Penthouse Studios, and the Company was owned by another called Friend Finder Networks, which was publicly-traded for a time. I met Kelly in my capacity as a talent manager of aspiring pornstars, and in promoting our porn starlets to the various production companies in the adult industry. I perceived Kelly as being a woman of power, but one whose power had not “gone to her head”. She was welcoming and respectful, and she didn’t act as if anything or anyone was beneath her. Remember that I mentioned that she had been to my house before? That’s because I knew that she’s a big-time animal enthusiast, actively involved in animal rescue. I found a young cat (or he found me… and by “cat”, I mean an actual domestic feline, not a person), and I didn’t know what the hell to do with him, but I was aware of Kelly’s involvement with animal rescue. Without missing a beat, she was willing to drive the 10 miles or so to my house in the San Fernando Valley to pick the little guy up. That made quite an impression on me. Here’s a lady at the top of the food chain, a shot-caller of a major Company in the adult publishing & film industry, an industry that I was still working to establish myself in (this was back in 2010), and she’s willing to drive all the way out to my house to pick up a feral cat. #Instarespect

Kelly Holland is reported to have begun her career in the media industry as a war-zone documentarian, and then as a smut director for Vivid, Adam & Eve & Playgirl TV.
