Porn Agency History

Our parent Company opened its doors at the turn of the Century, over 20 years ago, as a mainstream talent management Company for screen actors & fashion models. At the time, the Company had no aspiration or intention of breaking into the porn industry. The internet, and internet pornography, was still in its adolescence. DVD porn production was in full swing in the porn capital of the U.S., the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. Although our Company was also located in the San Fernando Valley, and although we were fully aware that the porn industry was right “in our backyard,” we had no knowledge of the industry or connections in it; no knowledge of porn agency history or what it would take to break into the industry as a talent representation firm. In this article, we’ll be covering general porn agency history—a brief chronicle of talent agencies in the American pornography industry, and we’ll also be covering our Company’s history—how it came into existence, etc.

Porn Agency History Before the Internet Revolution

When our parent Company began, Jim South (deceased), the “O.G.” talent agent in the porn industry since 1976, had recently launched one of the first porn agency websites, World Modeling. The Pretty Girl International porn agency website, a competitor of Jim’s, was established around the same time (circa 2000). A few years later, yet still before internet pornography took over DVD porn, Jim South had a few more competitors to contend with: Rob Spallone opened the Star World Modeling agency & Joel Lawrence opened an agency

called Gold Star Modeling. Although it didn’t remain open very long, the Number 1 Models porn agency was founded by German-American on-camera porn legend Sascha Koch.

Aaah, simpler times. The industry was a lot more straightforward then. Rumors abounded that Rob Spallone (an Italian gentleman with East Coast roots) was, well… “connected” (and we mean “connected” to more than just the porn industry; capiche?) and that he’d occasionally impose his will on others in the industry (including Jim South) with a baseball bat. All (100%) of these original porn agencies are now defunct.

Porn Agency History After the Internet Revolution

In the mid-2000s, the fallout from the nuclear bomb that was the internet was being felt in a significant way by all the old-school porn agencies & DVD production companies. Porn agency history was changed forever. Instead of releasing a new DVD once or twice a month, the new internet mega-producers Reality Kings, Bang Bros, Naughty America and – a bit later – Brazzers were pushing out multiple new videos daily. Aspiring pornstars were no longer perusing the stripper magazines (where the old agencies used to advertise) at their strip clubs in search of opportunities for extra cash; they began turning to the internet, search engines & social media to look for their gateway to porn stardom. Old-school porn agents like Jim South were fish out of water. Search engines? Social Media? W.T.F. is all that about!?

Jim South was born in the 1930’s, and that in the South! He didn’t know what these things meant or how to use them. The transition affected his business so intensely that he temporarily shut it down for over a year in 2006. World Modeling shut down for good in 2020 following Jim South’s demise.

The Dark Side of Porn Agency History

In the mid-to-late-2000s, a slew of younger, slicker, more internet-savvy porn agencies entered the mix & eventually took a large share of the new talent acquisition market. Not that the older agents were fine, upstanding & distinguished gentlemen, but the more contemporary, younger agents were outright cut-throat. Some of the porn agencies’ employees would even receive paid training in the industry and immediately go out and start their competing agencies. They would readily steal talent from one another, and most (if not all) of them immediately began pimping out their girls under the guise of being “V.I.P. escort agencies” and the like. (No, we’re not calling professional adult film bookings “pimping”… we mean actual trick-turning, with no camera rolling, in a hotel room, with untested tricks. Girls would come out to “Porn Valley” to become pornstars, immediately being turned into common prostitutes by the industry’s leading licensed & bonded porn agencies.) This practice, unfortunately, continues to this very day. “Did you leave Wichita to start your career, but the porn bookings are slow? No problem! We’ll help you become a high-class ho,” is the oft-heard refrain from most (if not all) so-called “licensed & bonded porn agents.” Our Company has taken a stand against this illegal bait-and-switch tactic long before the California Attorney General did (although we are in full support of his office’s action):

To this very day, new unsuspecting aspiring pornstars walk into most (if not all) of the big porn agencies’ offices and immediately have their photos taken to be pimped out for actual illegal prostitution with untested (potentially HIV-infected & syphilis-infected) clients. It’s disgusting, yet porn agency history reminds us that this is a fairly common practice. The girls didn’t come out West in an attempt to become a street girl, but it’s what their so-called “porn agents” trick them into doing when “porn work is slow.”

Talent agency pimping out their girls

If we were to comprehensively cover all of the misconduct & creepy (usually criminal) behavior of MOST, IF NOT ALL, of the so-called “licensed & bonded porn agents” & other porn industry power elite of the past quarter-century, we would need to build a database the size of Wikipedia. Unfortunately, instead of policing itself & weeding out the bad apples, the establishment of the porn industry tends to cover up the bad behavior, allowing their wolves to dress in agent’s clothing, devouring innocent, unsuspecting new performers. If you’re part of the industry’s power elite, like Ronald Hyatt (aka Ron Jeremy) was, they’ll hang out with you every week for karaoke and look the other way when you’re (“allegedly”) in the bathroom sexually assaulting girls.

The porn industry establishment’s vile behavior continues to this day. It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to read some of the reviews on a famous porn agency reviews site to see that the industry tends to attract a lot of scumbags. Do you think the casting directors at the production companies don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors? They know EXACTLY who they’re doing business with year after year, and they’re complicit. We recently asked Renae Englehart, who’s worked as the casting director & production manager for New Sensations for the past quarter century, how she & her Company justify and rationalize doing business with known pimps & madams, year after year. Her answer: “We’re not gonna talk about that right now.” Renae is one of many members of the American porn industry’s establishment, and she’s been aiding & abetting these pimps-in-agent’s-clothing for a quarter century, yet this is probably your first time hearing about her, because she hides out behind the scenes.

Fortunately, the proliferation of social media use & the after-effects of the #MeToo movement have shed some light on some of the bad apples. Last month, Dave Rock of the “licensed & bonded porn agency” Motley Models ran off the scene with his tail between his legs, disgraced by some weird sex scandal.

Guess what, Renae… we are going to talk about it. And we are going to talk about it right the fuck now!

And not to victim-shame or anything, but ladies… if the guy seeking to sign you as your porn agent has the level of evil spewing off his face as the guy in the photo above, save yourself a world of trouble, find the FUCKING door, and use it FFS! Use your noggin, ladies, please!

History of Our Talent Management Company

And then came our Company. In the mid-2000s, our parent Company was a robust mainstream talent management Company with a full roster of successful Hollywood screen actors & fashion models. We didn’t know the first thing about managing talent in the adult industry. So, we learned.

Like a Mormon missionary setting out to do his 2-year mission, our (now) Senior Vice President left the full-time employ of our Company as a talent rep to submerge himself in & educate himself full-time on the porn industry.

Sascha Koch (Photo by Chris King @ ReelSeduction.com)

The first person he met in the industry was Sascha Koch, the founder of (now defunct) Number 1 Models, who treated our V.P. with respect, invited him to hang out in his studio, taught him a bit about porn agency history & operations and entrusted him with a stack of Number 1 Models business cards, to become an independent pornstar recruiter for Sascha’s porn agency. Later on, as a studio set location owner/operator, Sascha was very helpful in creating some important first industry contacts for our Company, including those with Hustler Video & Brazzers.

From there, our Senior V.P. went to work for a couple amateur porn producers as a porno DVD salesman.

Finally, in 2006, our (now) Senior V.P. returned from his “mission,” and our adult-industry Division was formed as an international talent management Company for aspiring pornstars. Three principles have contributed to our overwhelming success since that time:

  1. Selective, Targeted Promotion: If our models aren’t regularly walking off of a producer’s porn set with a smile on their face, then that producer quickly loses access to our models… even if the model has a check in his or her hand, for the agreed upon amount, and that check clears the bank. It’s that simple. Just because you “make porn” doesn’t mean you can work with our Company’s performers. Our models only book with the crème-of-the-crop. In other words, not all money is good money.
  2. Mainstream Crossover: Due to our parent Company’s background as a mainstream talent manager for screen actors & fashion models, we’ve been able to help multiple clients get booked for both porn movies & mainstream Hollywood feature films. Porn agency history is not rich with talent companies that can make this claim; most companies are versed in either one side of “the (Hollywood) Hill” or the other.
  3. Strong Stance AGAINST Pimps-in-Porn-Agent-Clothing, Systemic Racism & Homophobia: Our Company is all for helping our models become famous & financially successful and achieve their dreams. Still, we also believe in doing so with integrity and without risking our performers’ safety & health (and the safety and health of the industry-wide performer pool) and without breaking the law!

In addition to adult film shoots, we consider mainstream projects & professional webcam modeling to be good ideas for additional income for our performer clients. However, we have always taken a strong, public stance against “pimps in porn agent clothing” (and by the way, “escorting” is just a fancy name for trick-turning, for those who don’t know). Porn agency history has shown that aspiring porn models must be cautious, as most (if not all) porn agents moonlight as pimps & madams. At our Company, we don’t. Once again, not all money is good money.

For kicks, we checked the racial breakdown of one of the significant “licensed & bonded” porn agencies. Just for kicks, we chose the one whose Owner/Founder is currently under indictment for pimping & pandering. Here are the races of his current female performers, as listed on his site, from top to bottom: White, White, White, White, Latina, White, White, White, Asian, White, White, White, Asian, White, White, White, White, Asian, Asian, White, White, White, Latina, White, White, White, White, Latina, White. That’s always been the norm for the big porn agencies. He used to have one token black girl, but he must not care about appearances anymore since his indictment. Here’s the current races of our Company’s most recently-signed performers, from top to bottom: Black, White, Latina, Black, Black, Latina, Sri Lankan, White, Latina, White, Latina/White Mixed, Brazilian, White/Black Mixed, Latina, Black, White, White, White, White, Latina, Turkish, Asian, White, Latina, White, Latina, Latina, Latina, White, Black, White, White, Asian, Asian, Black, White, White, White. Which roster sounds more loving, open-minded & consistent with the demographics & principles of the United States of America? You decide! Every other porn agency & talent management company out there is either straight or gay; they deal with the straight production companies or the gay ones. Our Company is the only talent representation firm in the porn industry with no qualms about working with both. It’s 2023 FFS! #BiPride

  1. Hello all. Awesome to see my photo cred under my good ol friend Sascha. I remember him as a very energetic young lad just after he made his journey to America. Every company and agent and, well, everything you mentioned I was a part of (the good stuff of course. no pimping here). Well I’d like to see what opportunities are available as I think my style could be greatly utilized once again.
