During my 17 years in the adult film industry, I’ve proudly added to my repertoire & resume / CV one porn job, after another. I’ve personally worked as a porno DVD salesman, pornstar talent scout / recruiter, pornstar talent manager, on-camera performer (pornstar), porn video editor, casting director, videographer, photographer, photo editor, producer, porn website developer, webcam model & webcam model trainer. If you can imagine it, I do it or have done it. If there’s any porn job that I haven’t had, I definitely know somebody that has it or has had it, or I’ll likely eventually have it, myself.
What’s it Like to Have a Porn Job?
My first porn job was working as a DVD salesman for a small, low-budget porn producer in the San Fernando Valley, aka Porn Valley, of Los Angeles. Besides the performers that he would hire to star in his movies, I was this Producer’s one-and-only employee. He would personally cast (hunt down & hire) the performers, and he would direct, shoot & edit his movies. My job at the Company was to call on adult DVD stores throughout the Country & to sell them our DVDs. I was a young man, in my early 20’s, and I was truly ecstatic & honored to have an official job – regardless of its title or pay rate – in the industry of my dreams, the American adult film industry. I felt like an aspiring pro fighter getting the opportunity to work directly for Dana White (President of the UFC) or an aspiring musician scoring a job with Sean Combs… or an aspiring plumber getting to work for Bob the plumber. 😉 I could’ve been the janitor / jizz cleaner; it didn’t matter, because I was finally in the industry! I, as a straight male, had finally broken through Porn Valley’s reverse glass ceiling.
Porn Valley is literally on the other side of a physical ‘hill’ from another, slightly-more-infamous, town called Hollywood, California. (You might’ve heard of it?) The two neighboring towns each represent a particular part of the entertainment industry. Hollywood, the “big daddy”, represents the Hollywood film industry. San Fernando Valley, the “lil’ momma”, represents the skin biz… the adult film industry. Two freeways (what Californians call interstates, expressways or highways), the 405 and the 101, directly connect the two towns. Just as the freeways connect the two towns, there are connections between the two industries represented by each of the towns, as well.
One of those similarities is the fantastic, almost fairy-tale-like ideas that adult industry career hunters (myself included) tend to possess, whether they’re pursuing a porn job or a career in the Hollywood film industry. That’s one thing that I consider to be an amazing asset of mine, an asset that I share with the countless young people that have traveled from ’round the United States, yea, ’round the world, to Hollywood and Porn Valley for nearly a century. It’s called hope. It’s the ability to hope & dream of a very bright future of fortune & fame, and the ability to wake up every morning & pursue that dream, regardless of one’s present circumstances.
Literally as I was putting this article together, soon-to-be-billionaire real estate mogul Grant Cardone mentioned on one of his podcasts, “It takes some level of immaturity to actually be successful. You have to have some idea about fantasy & possibility, which is a little bit of that immature quality.“
What Do Males Think a Porn Job is Going to Be Like?
For most males pursuing a porn job, the typical fairy-tale is pretty obvious. If people were honest, you’d find that it’s the primary reason why 99% of males that already have a porn job got involved in the business, in the first place. It’s the legal sex industry… emphasis on the word “SEX”! Whether you’re directly performing on camera, or sitting behind a desk editing explicit hardcore porn movies all day, the very day-to-day operations of the industry, its product, is sex!
I’m not saying that’s the only reason, but it’s the main reason. It’s the same reason why guys go to nightclubs / discos and buy drinks for girls and/or guys that they’re into… there’s a possibility of some nooky-nooky for their cookie-cookie.
For me, I had spent many years watching porn (solely for its artistic value, of course) 😉 as a teenager & as a young man, and now I had an opportunity to be an official part, however small, of that industry. I was stoked! The Producer I worked for had a small office/warehouse in Chatsworth, a region in the northwestern area of Porn Valley, where porn production & distribution was (and still is, albeit to a lesser degree) very prevalent. There was a small lobby area with a restroom, a small warehouse with a couple thousand porn DVDs in the back, and in the middle was a room, about the size of a small bedroom. In that room was just a mattress on the ground & some camera and lighting equipment. To me, the first time I saw it, was like entering sacred ground. This was the “action room”. This is where it all goes down, I thought.
With any luck, after a few months of loyal service, selling DVDs, maybe one day… just maybe… the Producer would be short on a “male talent” (what we, in the porn industry, call the guy that fucks the female co-star). The guy he planned to use would call in sick, and the producer would need to call in a young & virile backup stud. Guess who that would be! =) All of this was just in my imagination, of course. But you already know the rest of the story. That’s the same reason any guy wants to get into porn, and if they tell you otherwise, then they’re lying.
That is, after all, how anything gets done. AVN awards aren’t won by people that never envisioned that happening to them. Same with Academy Awards. Same with winning championships in sports, etc. It all starts with a dream.
What’s a Porn Job Actually Like, for Males?
So we’ve gone over what I was hoping my first porn job was going to be like. What was it actually like? The money sucked, to begin with, anyway. I was a straight-commission salesperson. You don’t sell, you don’t eat, kind of deal. Let’s just say that I didn’t do very well, at first. I would get paid weekly, every Friday, and one week I made less than $100. The producer told me, like he was doing me a favor (which he technically was, according to our deal), “no white man should ever walk around with less than $100 in his pocket. Here’s $100!” (I earned less than $100 in commissions that week, but he was being nice.)
Nonetheless, it was awesome to be a part of the industry that I had been so enamored by, for many years. I would come in 5 days a week, for a few hours each day, and call through a pre-existing list of adult DVD stores around the United States.
- “OK, tell me what you got that’s new.“
- “Well, we have Big Titty Whores #13 out, as well as Ass-Fucked Teens #27.“
- “OK, we’ve already got the teens one… send me out a dozen copies of Big Titty Whores #13.“
- “Yes sir, a pleasure doing business with you!“
After my first porn job selling DVDs for the low-budget Producer, I took the next step up and began working for a bigger production company. I had the same job (selling DVDs), but the Company was larger and could pay a little better. This Company had an office with several employees. The second Producer knew about my aspirations to ultimately get into talent management of pornstars, and he would give me some pointers on how the business works.
I was in my early 20’s at the time, but all of the people at the porn companies I worked for were older folks, in their 40’s, 50’s, 60’s & even 70’s. I feel truly honored that I had the opportunity to work with the old school pornographers, those that didn’t know anything about tube sites, uploading to Pornhub, VR porn, or anything like that. Those were more basic, simpler times; the good ole’ days.
Besides the fact that the product was porn DVDs, the offices of these companies weren’t much different from any other “regular” business office in the San Fernando Valley. They’re basic one or two-story offices, with smaller offices within. There’s a coffee pot, a water cooler and a nice older lady named Linda or something like that, that says good morning when you come to work.
After my days as a porno DVD salesman, I returned to the mainstream talent management Company for actors & models that I had previously worked at. I did so to launch its adult industry division, which would later become our Company. We began contracting brand-new adult film models, making connections with producers and a reputation within the industry as the new top providers of brand-new, never-seen-before on-camera talent.
What Do Females Think a Porn Job’s Going to Be Like?
Having now worked as a professional talent manager of both male & female adult models over the past 13 years, I’ve been able to witness the fact that – just like the males – inexperienced female aspiring pornstars also tend to concoct extravagant, delusional fantasies about how easy it will be to land a well-paying porn job and to achieve true success with a career in the industry. We often talk around the office about the “golden pussy syndrome”. Some – not all, but some, yea, many – females seem to think that they can eat whatever the hell they want, have an unlimited amount of body fat, send in application photos at any age over 18, the photos shot while lying on their bed with no makeup & their hairnet still on, and simply because they have, overnight, decided that they are now willing to spread their legs on camera, that the following is magically going to happen to them: some porn company is going to immediately send a stretched limo to pick them up, on the house, with complimentary champagne, to take them to the heliport to airlift their fat ass out to the red carpet of the AVN awards. They’re going to start winning awards, surrounded by paparazzi, and being handed over briefcases full of untaxed cash, all without ever having to get out of bed & put their makeup on… let alone without having to do any actual fucking on camera!
What’s a Porn Job Actually Like, for Females?
Of course, that’s not how it works. Although it’s much easier, in general, for females to get a porn job, there’s still a lot of work that they’ll have to do & requirements that they’ll need to meet. First of all, the female aspiring pornstar must be physically attractive to land herself a decent-paying on-camera porn job. No, I’m not talking “physically attractive” by liberal snowflake standards; I mean actually physically attractive by scientific, cultural, and real standards. Nowadays, half of the girls walking the red carpets at the industry awards shows are so-called “BBW’s” (code for obese & morbidly obese female “models”), but that’s just more of the industry’s ridiculous virtue signaling. Those are the participation trophies of the porn industry. In reality, very few of the (physically) big girls ever earn any substantial money from the professional porn industry. They might monetize their own content, but there are no major professional producers of fat girl porn these days.
Secondly, the female aspiring on-camera porn job-holder must be reliable, hard-working, loyal, professional & she must have a pleasant personality, in order to achieve true success in the industry. I work with porn producers every day, and they always tell me that a sweet & pleasant personality goes a long way.
A porn scene is not a booty call. As a female porn actress, you’ll need to spread more than just your legs. You’ll also need to spread your open-mindedness, with regards to the range of talent that you’re willing to work with (industry lingo for “fuck on camera”), and the sexual acts that you’re willing to do. Would you never leave the club with a guy who’s over 35? You can certainly choose to enforce this same limitation in your adult film career (yes, it’s your body), but this limitation will drastically limit the amount of porn jobs that your agent can book for you, or your ability to sign with a reputable porn agency, at all. Perhaps you won’t let your boyfriend cum in your mouth, or on your face, or in your pussy, but the director on each of your porn sets is going to need a more exciting cumshot than your old-fashioned, boyfriend/girlfriend-style, on-the-belly pull-out. You might need to “take one for the team“.
Also, although some amateur porn jobs might have you on-and-off set within an hour or so, major professional productions can require an entire day of your time. Only 90 minutes or so will be actual fucking, but there is also makeup, hair-styling, paperwork, legal videos, waiting for the male to get hard, regain hardness, re-shoots, multiple takes, technical problems, still photos, lunch breaks and more. The shooting of a professional porn movie can be an all-day affair.
I’m not trying to scare you off. It’s just a reality check. The flip side of the coin is that, with the right talent management, a porn job can be loads of fun (and other kinds of loads, as well), and it’s a great way for a young person to earn a boatload of quick and relatively easy cash.

How to Get a Porn Job
If you’re going to follow my example, you can have high aspirations, but understand that you’re most likely not going to start at the top of the corporate ladder… be prepared to start at the bottom (the “bottom” is also a great place to start, as a twink, by the way). 😉 My first porn job was porno DVD salesman. Thankfully, I had some previous sales, including telesales, experience. The job was the same, but the industry was the industry of my dreams. Focus on getting your “foot in the door” of the porn industry, first, and then work your ass off to get where you really want to be.
Lack of knowledge breeds fear, whereas
knowledge brings about confidence.
If you want to approach your porn job hunt with confidence, you’re going to need knowledge. Since most colleges, post-graduate schools, film schools & other trade schools don’t offer classes or degrees on working in the pornography industry, this knowledge can be obtained in two ways:
- Through years of personal experience, studying & working in the industry
- By teaming up with someone, or some company, that already has that experience
At our Company, we provide our models over 17 years of professional porn industry experience, knowledge & expertise. We maintain direct in-person relationships with the actual players, leaders & decision-makers in the porn industry. Each of them is graded, based on our proprietary producer categorization system. This means that we know not only which producers & directors are “legit“, but also which of them is best for a model’s first porn job, second porn job, and so forth.
If you want to pursue your first porn job with the confidence of having the top-rated model management Company in the industry behind you, then apply online now at our Company.
